Tumang Primary School has been part of the Meadowlands community in Soweto since 1973. Today, its 30 teachers serve more than 1,150 learners, supported by a small team of administrators and cleaners.
Like many public schools, Tumang relies on limited government funding to provide learning materials, maintain its facilities and meet the everyday needs of its learners. Through the Together Trust and the generous support of 7th Sense Travel’s clients, several practical improvements have been made to help create a safer, more welcoming learning environment.
These projects have included building a multipurpose lapa, installing paving, adding plants to green the grounds, painting classrooms and renovating the school’s sports facilities. Learners have also received school uniforms, clothing, stationery and metal plates for meals provided through the government nutrition programme.
Each contribution, whether large or small, helps give Tumang’s learners a school environment in which they can learn, play and grow with dignity.
